Natalie Niekro visits Sonoran Living to discuss Barrow’s partnership with the Joe Niekro Foundation leading up to the Knuckle Ball gala.

After Natalie Niekro unexpectedly lost her beloved father, veteran baseball pitcher Joe Niekro, to a cerebral aneurysm she wanted to help others avoid the heartache her family endured.  As the founder of The Joe Niekro Foundation, Natalie spearheads efforts across the country to spread awareness and garner support for brain aneurysm, AVM, and hemorrhagic stroke.

This week, she visited ABC 15 in Phoenix to talk to Sonoran Living TV viewers about the Joe Niekro Foundation’s annual gala, The Knuckle Ball…A Pitch for Life – taking place on Saturday, November 12 at the Arizona Biltmore. disorders.

Dr. Robert Spetzler, MD, is the Joe Niekro Foundation’s 2016 Medical Humanitarian of the Year

In addition to an unforgettable evening of festivities, including silent auction, dinner, and live music, renowned Barrow Neurosurgeon Dr. Robert Spetzler, MD, will be honored at the event as the Joe Niekro Foundation Medical Humanitarian of the Year. Dr. Spetzler has served as Chair of the Neurosurgery Department at Barrow since 1983 and he recently announced his retirement in 2017. Under Dr. Spetzler’s leadership, Barrow has made countless contributions toward the field of neurosurgery and specifically in the treatment of brain aneurysms and other complex neurovascular disorders.
