As the holidays approach and the New Year around the corner, many people are starting to make resolutions for their health and wellness.
One of the best kept secrets of Barrow Brain and Spine is their non-operative rehabilitation, pain management and wellness centers.
Dr. Raj Singh, director of the wellness program is here today to talk about ways to relieve spine pain in combination with a comprehensive wellness plan.
We take pride in offering each of our patients the proper diagnosis, then developing a customized rehabilitation program to help that patient achieve the best quality of life possible. At our centers, in central Phoenix and North Scottsdale, we believe in treating our patients, not just their symptoms.
Many people come to the rehabilitation center with back pain. We offer many therapies and pain management programs to treat the underlying causes of their pain, but often times there are other contributing factors. These factors include systemic inflammation caused by poor nutrition and diseases such as diabetes, arthritis and hypertension that affects every organ in the body including spine, liver, heart and brain.
It has always been my philosophy to care for the whole person. In order to help our patients stay as pain-free and active as possible during (and after) their recuperation, we will work with each of them to build a customized, comprehensive wellness program. This program will likely include an exercise regimen, education about appropriate back care and perhaps nutrition counseling.
About the Wellness Program
The first thing we do is conduct a complete spine, musculoskeletal and medical evaluation. This detailed information will help establish a proper diagnosis and plans for customized wellness. The evaluation provided by myself includes a complete medical healthy history evaluation, physical evaluation, any studies that need to be done such as a CT or MRI, bone density, body composition and blood work depending on each individual patient.
After all the evaluations come back, we will prepare an official diagnosis and treatment plan that is designed to improve the patient’s overall health.
Depending on the individual, a treatment plan can include metabolic optimization, a fitness program, nutrition program or a combination of a few or all of these.
We have a dietitian on staff that will work with the patient on their nutrition needs and a plan to meet their goals.
Our exercise physiologist and physical therapist will work with the patient on their fitness program. This is a functional exercise program that is fun, safe and effective. It’s a movement-based 20-minute program utilizing our kinesis equipment. This will work the muscles and slowly start to stretch and strengthen the areas identified to relieve pain. The program is customized to meet the individual patient needs until the desired goals are met.
Every program is monitored with follow up appointments with Dr. Singh.
